NORTON SHORES – State Representative Mary Valentine (D-Norton Shores) today applauded the Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA) Board for approving a tax credit that prompted PolyCem LLC to relocate its manufacturing operations from Mississippi to Norton Shores. The project is expected to create 209 local jobs.
"This is incredible news for Norton Shores and our state," Valentine said. "This tax credit will provide more good-paying jobs for our hard-working residents. PolyCem will help to diversify our economy and help Michigan have an even bigger role in the manufacturing market."
The high technology employment tax credit for PolyCem LLC valued at $791,333 over seven years is expected to create 209 new jobs, including 116 directly by the company. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) estimates the project also will generate an additional 93 indirect jobs. The average weekly wage for the new jobs will be $595, and the company will offer health care benefits.
The concrete-based technology company will invest $5.6 million to relocate its operations to Norton Shores. PolyCem, which creates flexible concrete materials, chose Michigan over a competing site in Wisconsin.
"We have the highly skilled workforce that PolyCem is looking for," Valentine said. "These jobs will help turn Michigan's economy around and make us a leader in the 21st century economy."
