LANSING – State Representative Mary Valentine (D-Norton Shores) today voted in favor of a plan that will create 80 local jobs. The plan, which now heads to the Governor for her signature, will speed up construction projects at universities and community colleges across the state and create more than 8,000 jobs for Michigan workers.
"Since coming to the House, I have made it my No. 1 priority to create good-paying jobs for workers," Valentine said. "Every job we create makes a difference to our working families. This plan is vital to getting our economy back on track and moving Michigan forward."
Using a mix of state and local funding Muskegon Community College will begin building a $5 million Student Services Building, creating 80 local jobs.
The plan passed by the House today will create 8,329 jobs by funding construction projects at universities and community colleges across the state. Projects range from expanding existing facilities to constructing new buildings, giving our schools the tools they need to prepare our students to succeed in the 21st century global economy.
The plan passed today is part of larger initiative to create more than 29,000 jobs across the state. The overall initiative included hundreds of construction projects at universities, colleges, airports, military facilities and state parks.
"The benefits of this plan will be realized now and for years to come," Valentine said. "In order to move Michigan forward, we must invest in our residents. Not only will this plan create jobs for our workers now, but it will also help create the highly educated workforce Michigan needs to compete in the global economy."
